My #very2020raceforlife

What a weekend!

With the race for life being postponed due to the current circumstances with corona virus, Cancer Research UK were set to loose a huge amount of funding they gain every year from the incredible participants of the race.  With vital cancer trials being delayed this year they couldn't afford to lose the public's support which helps fund the vital research, so the great minds at Cancer Research UK decided to launch a #very2020raceforlife.

After seeing multiple posts on facebook of amazing inspirational people I decided it was my turn.  Coming from a family of runners I wanted to add a twist to my race to help me raise as much money as possible.  I decided an inflatable costume was the best way to go; not only will it attract attention but it will also make it an incredibly (and I emphasize incredibly) hard challenge hopefully worth a few pounds sponsorship.

Next I had the task of roping somebody in to join me so I didn't look like the only mad one (as the race wasn’t run in a group setting) who better to ask than my best friend Edward.

Once I got Ed on board we had to plan our route. Ed had the bright idea of running round our local park to raise as much as we could with on the day donations (even though this meant the risk of embarrassing ourselves in our very questionable outfits).

The day kicked off with a live facebook event hosted by Alex Jones including warm ups, tributes and followed by a minutes silence.

With the sun shining brightly onto our ‘greenhouse’ type outfits we roasted our way around the hilly route completing five 1km laps. Along the way we were met with laughs, cheers and one very bemused child who didn’t know what to make of us (which definitely entertained a few passers by)! After a whole lot of encouragement from Ed I made it up the hills and we finally completed our challenge.

Our effort was definitely worth it as thanks to all the amazing donations we received, we managed to reach a whopping £198.50 plus gift aid.  This is not only over our original goal but nearly double what we aimed for!!!

Thank you for all the support and hopefully we will be back next year with just as mad a challenge!
